Daniele Tonella was named ING’s chief technology officer July 29, succeeding interim CTO Marnix van Stiphout. His appointment is effective Aug. 5.
Tonella previously served as group chief information officer and chief executive of UniCredit Services and held roles at AXA Group, Evalueserve and Swiss Life, according to ING’s July 29 release.
More recently, he worked as a senior adviser at Avalia Systems, Swish.ai and McKinsey and Co., according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Daniele’s experience and track record in digital leadership will greatly benefit ING in executing our strategy,” CEO Steven van Rijswijk said in ING’s release.
Stiphout will return to his roles as chief operations officer and chief transformation officer after filling the interim CTO role since Nov. 1, 2023, according to the release. He took over for Gorkem Koseoglu who stepped down as CTO.
During his time as interim CTO, van Stiphout worked through generative AI efforts to boost productivity for the bank and its clients, he previously told Bank Automation news at Money2020 Europe in June.
