Make it free, and people will come.
Allpoint Network, a Cardtronics Inc. affiliate, has inked a deal with Intuit Inc. to provide Intuit’s Refund Card and Pay Card customers access to its surcharge-free ATM locations. Intuit’s cards allow customers to deposit their tax refunds or payroll directly onto prepaid cards.
The alliance grants Allpoint access to a whole new segment of small business prepaid customers, and as an ATM network operator, the move should help answer one of the greatest concerns of all: how do you get more transactions to happen at the ATM?
“Anything in prepaid is bringing brand new users to the ATM,” Ben Psillas, president of Allpoint tells Bank Innovation. “We are very bullish on this segment.”
For Intuit, the upshot should be greater usage of its Pay Card and Refund Cards. Allpoint has more than 43,000 ATMs in national and regional merchant locations across the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom and Australia.
“Fees are one the biggest concerns consumers have,” says Psillas. “By eliminating the [surcharge], it makes a consumer want the card.”
