A year can change a lot, including how many U.S. consumers are embracing their mobile phones for their finances.
Indeed, 29.8 million Americans accessed their financial services accounts through mobile devices in 4Q 10, up 54% from the year before, reports comScore Inc. Financial services accounts include bank, credit card or brokerage and the statistic accounts for both browser and application access.
The report, which is published quarterly, also had two additional astounding growth statistics:
1. 18.6 million tapped into their financial accounts through their mobile browsers in Q4 2010, up 58% from the year previous; and
2. 10.8 million accessed their accounts via applications, up 120% from the year previous.
The report also finds that consumers still harbor some mobile finance reluctance because of their preference for using a fixed online device for their banking needs and because of lingering security concerns over using the mobile channel for banking.
