Bank of Cyprus is now letting its customers use their fingerprints instead of a PIN to authenticate payments.
Today the bank said it had teamed up with digital security company Gemalto to issue a biometric EMV card that uses fingerprint recognition to authenticate the cardholder.
This biometric sensor card works with existing payment terminals already installed across the country.
Bertrand Knopf, Gemalto Executive VP told Finextra:
Using biometrics for contactless payments is a natural move as it fits in naturally with the gesture used to pay… It allows a better user experience, enabling higher transaction amounts without entering a PIN while benefiting from the convenience of contactless.
