The heated debate regarding the government’s economic stimulus package is a hot topic not just in Washington, but in the streets and academe as well. Just this morning, my teacher segued into this issue, which later turned on to be an interesting class discussion. My classmates voiced their opinions regarding the upside and the drawbacks of the plan.
To encourage critical thinking in our class, our teacher opted to use this as a the topic for our next essay composition. I have to admit that I am not well versed with the topic and its underlying issues. Thus, it would be hasty of me to jump into any conclusions much less, provide recommendations for it. However, as far as I know, these are truly difficult times. Just about everyone that I know are in deep financial trouble. I am all for free market and stuff, but I also think that the situation will worsen if the government would not do something about it.
As everyone was saying, the key to get out of this mess and make the economic stimulus package a successful one is for the government to spend taxpayer’s money responsibly and be transparent in telling the people where the money will be spent. I know vaguely how my essay would go, but I still have a lot of brainstorming and researching to do. One thing is for certain though: we are at the precipice of our generation and I hope that we all learn from this.
