The only green you’ll see these days at Commerce, a New York City restaurant, is roughage. The restaurant, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal, stopped accepting cash this week. Diners are now required to use debit or credit cards when paying for their meals.
The move shouldn’t alienate many of the appropriately named restaurant’s clientele. About 90% of customers were already paying with credit and debit cards, according to the restaurant’s owner.
Could this be the start of a new trend in payments? Clearly, consumers are using debit and credit cards more than ever before. How long before cash becomes irrelevant?
