The next meeting of the House Financial Services Committee on the proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET. No meetings are planned for today.
So far, the CFPA effort has turned into one of the most delightful lobbying battles of the post-credit crisis era. Clearly, the line is being drawn in the sand by banking lobbyists. It’s all about carve outs at this point. Community bankers apparently got one — they’ll have to comply with new financial services legislation, but they won’t have to deal with the CFPA. The National Automobile Dealers Association wants one for dealers, who help make auto loans, which is pretty much every dealer in the nation. Whether NADA scores a carve out remains to be seen. Fun and games in Washington, DC.
