Daimler Mobility is integrating its ePayment service, Mercedes pay, into Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the company announced at the International Automobile Exhibition in Frankfurt. The service will allow Mercedes-Benz owners to pay for parking, gas and Mercedes-provided services through the multimedia system MBUX.
Mercedes-Benz owners will be able to pay for or renew services such as navigation, DAB+ digital radio and smartphone integration in more than 30 countries, according to a company release.
In addition, Mercedes pay will allow for on-street and in-garage parking throughout Germany via RFID chip. Parking duration and payment information will be displayed on the MBUX display. The garage will be directly paid, eliminating the need to maneuver the vehicle to retrieve the parking ticket, or the need to walk to an automated pay station, the release said.
Daimler’s Bertha app will also allow customers to compare gas prices and pay for fuel at 400 selected gas stations in Germany. The company has plans to integrate this functionality into Mercedes-Benz vehicles, although no timeline was given.
Daimler Mobility was unavailable for comment at press time, and it was unclear whether Mercedes pay would be expanded to allow for loan or lease payments.
