Goldman Sachs and Citi both rolled out AI products to kick off 2025.
Goldman on Jan. 22 released its generative AI-powered GS AI Assistant to 10,000 of its 45,000 employees.
The $2 trillion bank’s in-house AI assistant works like a bank employee and can be used to automate business processes, including:
- Translating code;
- Proofreading emails;
- Responding to queries; and
- Summarizing documents.
The bank plans to scale the AI assistant throughout the firm yearend, a person familiar with the matter told Bank Automation News.
Goldman’s product launch follows Citi’s Jan. 15 announcement that it is arming 30,000 of its developers with generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot to write code.
The $1.7 trillion bank reported $11.8 billion in tech spend last year and expects to increase that 4% this year, Chief Executive Jane Fraser said during the bank’s Jan. 15 earnings call.
Citi recently launched three gen AI tools for employees in eight countries, with plans to expand the tools to more countries by yearend, a Citi spokesperson told BAN:
- Citi Stylus, a tool that delivers immediate insights from documents in a variety of formats;
- Citi Assist, a desktop assistant to help employees navigate Citi policies and procedures; and
- Citi Squad, a tool that helps Citi developers automate noncoding tasks such as code review and document generation.
In addition to simplifying workflow, “access to generative AI tools helps employees write code more efficiently and bring new products to market faster,” the Citi spokesperson said.
