Engagement banking platform Backbase named Sam Boggs III senior vice president and general manager for the North American mid-market segment last week.

Boggs will focus on delivering engaging banking technology to the bank and credit union space, according to a Backbase release.
“My responsibility is to help shape the process, the product, the team and build on what we already have,” Boggs told Bank Automation News. “I think it’s a great role for me. I’m familiar with high growth, high potential platforms and the technology space is something that really is a passion for me.”
Backbase clients include Cleveland-based KeyBank and Florida-based BankUnited, according to FINavigator.
The tech provider allows its clients to expand how they interact with customers, members and employees, Boggs said. “That’s something I think is going to be really appealing to the mid-market customer here in the U.S.”
Fintech Alkami names new CTO

Cloud-based fintech Alkami named Deep Varma as its chief technology officer effective Jan. 30.
Varma has 20 years of Silicon Valley experience and knowledge in AI and big data, according to an Alkami release. He previously served as chief technology officer at Varo Bank, where he had a hand in building the its technology infrastructure, according to the release.
“Deep’s experience in establishing the technology vision and architecture for some of the most progressive software companies is essential at this stage of Alkami’s journey,” Chief Executive Alex Shootman said in the release.
Zenus Bank’s Woods moves into new role
Zenus Bank’s John Woods is moving into the chief revenue officer role after serving as the Puerto Rico-based bank’s chief marketing officer.
As chief revenue officer, Woods will drive client acquisition and revenue growth for the bank, according to a release.
“This year we have exciting plans to accelerate our growth, expand our product and services and cement our position as a global bank,” Chief Executive of Zenus Bank Jose A Diaz-Ortiz said in the release.
Varo Bank appoints chief product officer
San Francisco-based Varo Bank appointed Wook Chung as chief product officer last week.
Chung will be responsible for the bank’s product strategy and will lead its innovation unit, Varo Tech, according to a release. Chung previously served in roles at SoFi, Facebook, Twitter, Samsung, Google and Microsoft.
“I dreamt of creating financial products that help consumers make informed and smart decisions about their money,” Chung said in the release.
Atlantic Union Bank tags new CIO
Atlantic Union Bank selected Matt Linderman as its chief information officer.
Linderman will lead, plan and manage all areas of technology and digital strategy for the Richmond, Va.-based bank.
“Matt is an accomplished IT executive with extensive expertise leading information technology and operations teams,” President and Chief Operating Officer Maria Tedesco said in the release.
Linderman joins the $20.3 billion bank from PNC Financial Services, where he served as chief technology officer and senior vice president of data center and cloud products.
