TD Bank invests in credit card solutions, digital experiences

TD Bank is investing in its digital experience as the bank upped tech spend in the first quarter and launched two new credit cards in May. The Cherry Hill, N.J.-based bank introduced monthly subscription-based, no interest credit card TD Clear and flexible payment credit card TD FlexPay, according to a release from TD Bank. FlexPay allows clients to skip a payment once a year, and automatically waive the first late fee of every year. “In addition to launching the new cards, we’ve made significant investments in our card servicing and digital experiences,” Garrett said. For example, in Q1 the bank increased its tech spend 19% year over year to $462 million, according to the bank’s Q1 2023 earning supplement. “From a digital experience perspective, we have been investing in our platform to make the user experience even smoother from the moment of application all the way through the life cycle of card ownership,” Garrett said. Technology, for one, played a role in the launch of TD Clear and TD FlexPay as the bank looked to ensure a seamless launch of the cards across multiple systems, Aline Arslanian , head of U.S. credit cards and unsecured lending technology at TD Bank, told BAN . The tech team is investing in digital experience throughout the bank, Arslanian said, noting that improvements have been made to the bank’s application system, in-store customer service platform, sales revenue tracking system, business rule management system, interactive response phone system and collections technology. “Technology played a pivotal role in driving system changes, ensuring a seamless launch of TD’s newest card products, Flex and Clear,” Arslanian said. TD Bank will report Q2 earnings on Thursday.
