Fiserv named Michael Lyons as its next chief executive today.

Effective Jan. 27, Lyons is set to replace CEO Frank Bisignano, who plans to exit the tech provider on June 30 or earlier. Bisignano is awaiting Senate confirmation after President Donald Trump nominated him to be commissioner of the Social Security Administration.

Lyons joins Fiserv from $559 billion PNC Bank, where he has served as president since 2024 after more than 12 years as executive vice president.

He will report to Bisignano during a transition period until the latter’s departure, according to a Fiserv release today.

When Lyons takes over as CEO, Doyle Simons, lead independent director of Fiserv, will become nonexecutive chairman of the board, according to Fiserv.

“We are confident that Mike is the right choice to guide Fiserv into the next chapter of unrivaled innovation and service to financial institutions, businesses and communities around the world and continue to drive shareholder value,” Simons said.

Fiserv’s recent growth moves include:

  • Teaming up with Unicaja, a Malaga, Spain-based bank, to develop payments capabilities for the bank;
  • Penetrating the Brazilian market with its point-of-sale offering in the third quarter;
  • Joining forces with Doordash to provide the e-commerce company with embedded payments capabilities;
  • Deploying AI within its operations to boost efficiency and develop products for its clients; and
  • Fiserv also acquired payments company PaySafe for an undisclosed amount to improve its embedded financial offerings, according to a Fiserv Dec. 23 release.

The company is expected to report its Q4 earnings on Feb. 5.

Fiserv declined to comment further on Lyon’s appointment.
