Banking software provider Jack Henry is onboarding more than 100 financial institutions to the FedNow payment rail since its launch last month and has seen an increase in client demand for cloud and banking services in the fourth quarter of 2023, which ended June 30.

“On July 20, we became one of the first service providers to support live transactions on the Federal Reserve’s new FedNow instant payment service,” David Foss, chief executive of Jack Henry, said in the company’s earnings call Wednesday. “More than 100 of our clients are in various stages of implementation and we expect to add hundreds of financial institutions over the next 12 months.”

By the Numbers: Automation is cloud's biggest draw

The company has “signed 63 new clients to our Banno Digital platform” [Jack Henry’s digital banking platform for fintechs] in Q4 and signed “52 contracts to move on-premise core clients to our private cloud.”

Registered users of the Banno digital suite number more than 10 million compared with 3.2 million users in June 2020, Foss said.

THE BIG PICTURE: The Monett, Mo.-based company is seeing “robust growth” in cloud banking operations; revenue in the segment grew 10% year over year, Mimi Carsley, chief financial officer and treasurer at Jack Henry, said during the earnings call.

Strong revenue growth for the quarter was driven by cloud banking sales and the “implementation timing and the size of those kind of clients,” Carsley said, adding that the company expects cloud banking margins to increase as more customers migrate to the cloud.

BY THE NUMBERS: In Q4, Jack Henry reported;

  • Revenue was up 11% YoY to $534 million;
  • Net Income was up 22% to $97 million; and
  • Operating Income was up 20% to $124 million.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: “Consolidation in the industry remains a headwind,” which can affect Jack Henry’s price margins and profits in the medium term,” according to a Zacks Equity Research report.

Furthermore, tech giants like Apple, Google, and Facebook are looking to target the underserved banking community, which can lead to “disruption in banking sector,” hurting the company’s bottom line, Zacks report stated.

FLASHBACK: The company was selected by Machias Saving Bank to modernize its tech stack and migrate its operations to the cloud last month.

Also in July, BaaS provider Core10 partnered with Jack Henry to utilize its Vendor Integration Program to tap into third-party API solutions.

FORWARD LOOK: The company is deploying AI in its Financial Crimes Defender solution to provide efficient anti-money laundering tools to clients, CFO Carsley said.
